Today on the radio program (Tucson's AM 1330, from 4-5pm every Thursday), I'll be interviewing Dr. Jackie Marquette - as her website describes her, Jackie is an "Author, Consultant, Researcher, Parent."
With over 20 years of experience in special education, Jackie "has experience as a special educator, school consultant, and has publications in books, journals, and monthly newsletters. Jackie has a Ph.D. from the University of Louisville where she studied how youth with ASD [Autistic Spectrum Disorders] successfully reached independent living. She developed and validated a new assessment tool, the Capability and Independence Scale (CAIS ©). The CAIS measures capability and independent levels in individuals and is a protocol for evaluating need for supports to enhance personal growth outcomes as life planning occurs."

I think Jackie will have a lot of interesting things to share with us, especially on how her son, Trent, who is autistic, has transitioned to a happy, independent adult life - including a regular job and award winning art.
